8th-May-2008 02:00 pm - No tooth left behind!

So I guess that wasn’t the mantra of the dentist who over 10 years ago removed my wisdom teeth. Apparently he left behind a chunk of tooth. Said fragment lived happily in my gum for 10 years, then I guess it missed getting attention and decided to become abscessed. LOVELY! So now I have to go to an oral surgeon to remove my little tooth friend.
Its not that big of a deal since the abscess burst last week, and how my gum looks and feels healthy. If the dentist didn’t get an x-ray we would have never known, since he was sure it was a piece of food which got lodged between my molar and gum. I’m sure it will be no fun to have it removed though….
I went to the common market in Frederick today to pick up some of their Sushi, which has always been AMAZING! They use brown rice and sesame seeds and it’s just always fresh and tasty. Today I decided to get a container of seaweed salad as well. When I got back from work, I started in on my should be very good lunch and took a large bite of the seaweed salad, and it was um, unusually fishy. I know that seaweed salad can have that ocean twang, but this was outright strong fishy, almost rotted fishy. So I looked at the ingredients to find one that I was completely grossed out by "JELLY FISH" um really? who would do this to my seaweed salad. And since when is Jelly Fish edible? I figured those little snotty looking things were just for stinging. urgh... I just got a little gaggy again just thinking about it. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Flags at half mast at sundown on Yom HaShoahOn the eve of Yom HaShoah in Israel, there is a state ceremony at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes Authority. At 10:00am on Yom HaShoah, throughout Israel, air-raid sirens are sounded for two minutes. During this time, people stop what they are doing and stand at attention; cars stop, even on the highways; and the whole country comes to a standstill as people pay silent tribute to the dead. On the eve of Yom HaShoah and the day itself, places of public entertainment are closed by law. Israeli television airs Holocaust documentaries and Holocaust-related talk shows, and low-key Hebrew and Yiddish songs are played on the radio. Flags on public buildings are flown at half mast.

On friday i will be in route to a friends wedding. But plan on having my own moment of silence at 10am. I remember this moment in Israel so clearly. The entire county does indeed come to a stand still. Some would pray outload, others would pray silently to themselves, others would cry and a few would break out in song when the 2 minutes were over. Its funny because as a kid i never imagined how this rememberance would mean so much to me. Even though I no longer consider myself to be a Jew in religion, it will always be such a huge part of my heritage, my history and my family expereince.
